A growing sport: Cyclocross riders pedal to the finish at Wurstcross, The Herald-Zeitung Newspaper.
Tension filled the air at Cypress Bend Park as dozens of cyclists lined up waiting to start the race. When they got their signal to start, the cyclists moved forward almost as one body, and a spectator in a silver helmet with horns on it cheered for his friend in the race, bellowing, “Valhallah!”
The WurstCross Cyclocross and Beer Festival came to New Braunfels Saturday morning. Organizers partnered with Wurstfest to give all participants tickets to the festival and plan on making a donation to the New Braunfels Parks Foundation in gratitude for the chance to hold the race at Cypress Bend Park. Vendors and sponsors – Grimpeur Bros., CLIF, the Texas Cyclocross Project and more — were on site selling coffee, cycling gear and healthy snacks.
